In Loving Memory of Paul Norman Stapley

October 16, 1944 – May 4, 2025

Paul Norman Stapley, age 80, of West Valley City, Utah, returned to his Maker on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Born in the quiet town of Coalville, Utah, on October 16, 1944, Paul was the beloved son of Norman and Leola Stapley. He grew up with a natural curiosity and gifted hands—qualities that would become the hallmarks of his life’s work and passions.

On February 2, 1968, Paul married the love of his life, Laura K. Hall, in Logan, Utah. Two years later, they put down roots in West Valley City, where they built a home and a life together. It was there that they raised their three daughters: Jeanie, Sherry, and Tamra—each one a reflection of his quiet strength and generous heart.

Paul was a master craftsman in every sense of the word. If it was broken, he could fix it. If it didn’t exist, he could build it. His woodshop was a place of magic—filled with the scent of sawdust and the sound of possibility. He was known to many for his lovingly crafted birdhouses and feeders, each one a testament to his appreciation for the simple beauty of nature. Birdwatching brought him peace, and he found joy in watching the skies from his own backyard.

For over 30 years, Paul worked as a maintenance engineer and furniture repairman at the Little America Hotel, where he was deeply respected for his skill, diligence, and kindness. He was the kind of man who took pride in a job well done, no matter how small or unseen.

A devoted Denver Broncos fan, Paul could always be found cheering on his team during football season, rarely missing a game. But perhaps one of his greatest pleasures was the quiet moments spent on the porch with a Louis L’Amour novel in hand—his imagination roaming the frontier as he sat surrounded by the home he had built and nurtured.

Paul’s legacy lives on in his daughters—Jeanie, Sherry, and Tamra—and in the many lives he touched with his steady hands, humble wisdom, and warm heart. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Stapley.

He is reunited in peace with his parents, Norman and Leola Stapley; his sisters Phyllis Simmons (Gerald) and Judy Walker (Robert); and his nephew, Michael Simmons.

A graveside service will be held in his honor on Wednesday, May 21st, at 12:00 PM at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah 84120. All who knew and loved Paul are welcome to attend and pay tribute to a life so well lived.

Though Paul has left this earthly home, his legacy of craftsmanship, kindness, and quiet strength will endure in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
